I've been in quite a reading slump and so I decided to put down my kindle and read some paperbacks that have been siting on my shelf for the past year. My goal is to read all of the books that I was gifted during Christmas 2019 before Christmas 2020, with the exception of A Suitable boy, which is about 1600 pages long! While reading 2001: Space Odyssey, I had the urge to purchase some books that I've been wanting to read for awhile. I bought a copy of The Left Hand of Darkness in the Penguin Galaxy edition since I have a copy of Dune in the same edition. I also purchased a copy of the Southern Reach Trilogy since it was less expensive to purchase the hardcover than each individual paperback.
When I want to get out of the house, I have been going to thrift stores since they aren't as busy as big-box stores. I have been wanting to read some Jane Smiley for a long time and was surprised to see a copy of A Thousand Acres at multiple stores (I saw 4 copies in one store!). I bought Twelfth Night because I feel like I should read the original She's The Man. Dickens and Brontë were inspired by a non-fiction book I recently read that discusses Victorian literature. I've since bought a few more books since taking this picture but I think I'm done purchasing books for myself for the rest of 2020.
